About

This account is deprecated, see here for an up to date version.

I was born May 12th, 1986 and lived in or around Peekskill, New York where i attended Walter Panas High School, graduating in 2004 and going on to Boston University where I seem to have wasted a bunch of time and expanded some interests I had in High School, taking a Bachelor of Arts in English and History in May of 2008.

I currently reside in Brighton, MA and work in Boston as a bookseller for wages that allow me to pay rent. I am growing to love the harsh and freezing New England winters and and slowly ruling out moving anywhere that is not at least as nasty part of the year.  I hate hot temperatures and will avoid travel to any clime that is consistenly above 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

I’m an avid reader of Fiction and lean my reading toward Science Fiction, Sci-Fi and SF: an area I have published and will continue to publish reviews on. I am a member of the SFRA since late 2007 and attended the 2008 SFRA Confrence in Lawrence Kansas, where I met a large number of awesome people.

I listen to music almost constantly while I’m awake and like most other things, tend to contemplate the communicative payload of lyrical content as well as the play of musical genre conventions and styles bouncing off of one another.

I’m most generally interested in putting ideas into my mind and watching them whack into each other and see how they fit together to form thing like Literary History, Genre, and Style.  Especially of interest is how ideas in Science and Philosophy get played out in the sort of sandboxes of Fiction, how some authors seem to road test the groundbreaking ideas of their days in the lives of their imagined people.  This sort of interplay may well by why SF is of so much interest to me, in addition to being entertaining and escapist in a way I have always loved.

About the Site:

The Web Presense of Andrew M. Kelly, hopefully better organized, more full of content and more consistently updated than any previous iterations.

This site, or at least some form of a web presense has existed in one sporadically updated form or another, under several different names on several servers, it started as a [how loath I am to admit it] a now [happily] defunct geocities site, then moved to a hand coded html site on a friend’s server from 2002 to about 2004 when I moved it to a blogspot account in 2005 and then migrated to Wordpress and mind-gloaming.net in 2007 and now to slightly easier to update install of Wordpress after a while messing with Drupal in late 2008. That list may as well be a short survey of the growing complexity of user-generated content creation tools.  Wordpress continues to imporve on itself by leaps and bounds and remains the easiest tool I’ve encounted for such things.  I can’t imagine Blogger or LJ has changed much, since at Google at least, all the Javascript Wizardry appears to be centered on flagship products like Gmail.

Below is an even older account of what the hell I’m doing here:

For information about me, a short Bio and Resumé are here.

This website is currently (February 2008) undergoing some changes as I attempt to hack away at a focus for this space.

Expect the posting of a general mission statement once I iron it out in my head.
