damn you amazon, you’ve made buying music too easy. I just bought LCD Soundsystem’s first album. It came out to something like $ .56 per song. I’ll have to listen to anything but “Daft Punk is playing in my house” tomorrow or whenever my iPod gets back here from NY. I left it there and it’s getting shipped. (Thanks mom.)

Thursday, November 29th, 2007It’s like the a blog! but with more than one person! I finally seem to have found an interesting and intelligent corner of the internet. don’t be surprised, invisible readers, if output here drops off so I can make internet friends. Loads of interesting stuff is getting said there all the time. Finally: constantly interesting, always updated content. I’ll never, ever be bored again. (I probably will laugh, be disgusted, enraged and frightened for the fate of humanity though.) All in a day’s work, internet.

Old Memories.
Tuesday, November 27th, 2007I had forgotten how awesome the Sim City franchise is. I’ve just spent an hour or so getting back into Sim City 4. Sim City 4 seems almost too easy to manage initially, or maybe the years I spent playing SC2k and SC3 make me awesome at it. If I can locate them next time I’m home I might have to dig out my SC2k floppies and bring them up here and set up my old computer in the closet…just to play that game. I might even have saved cities somewhere in my Jurassic Park lunch box that has served for years as an archive for things like MS-DOS V. 6 .0 upgrade discs 1 though 7 or something along those lines. It may be the one and only time I regret not putting a floppy drive in this new build, unless i just find the game online and ahem…access a remote backup.
I’m fairly disappointed that what was once dubbed SC5 is now Sim City Societies and looks nothing like the previous entries into the franchise. Thanks but no Thanks EA, I’m a ‘casual gamer’ but not that casual. I’ll be saving my $50 for Spore which will come out in a 2 for one pack with Duke Nukem Forever. Seriously though, that game is why I built a new computer last May.

Monday, November 26th, 2007free books.
Monday, November 26th, 2007Project Gutenberg has been a thing in my mind that’s bee a great idea that I hadn’t been able to utilize, because I couldn’t get behind the idea of reading a book only at my computer. Now a fancy e-book reader or perhaps a project like Daily Lit could allow me to get over these problems but I like having hard copies. This problem was largely overcome when I realized at the outside I could print an additional 700+ pages of text at my university. This is included, I’ve already paid for it, so it looks like the university will be printing a number of books for me as the semester winds down and my need for a printing quota reduces. (my use of an entire ream of paper through my LaserJet 1020 this semester has contributed too.) This will be my first selection, suggested by Warren Ellis, and this my second. They’re both classics of some sort, I’m lead to understand. This is such a good idea I can’t believe I haven’t thought of it before. It’s like I’ve just discovered an awesome thing right under my nose, books that are a lot closer to free than most others. Time to read for classes, maybe walk to staples and grab some 3 ring binders for my new books.

Monday, November 26th, 2007best thing I’ve come across yet this morning.
John Hodgman (he’s the Book Review’s comics critic, in addition to the other hats he rakishly wears) reads from his book “The Areas of My Expertise” in a bit that functions as a parody of a PBS “American Experience” episode. You have to love the way the camera pans over the same static image for seven minutes.

Good Thanksgiving, good to be back here though, especially with a working record player. Now I’ve just got to track down a working 45″ adapter for the one 45 I own. There’s a post brewing on why I enjoy records. (It’s not because they ’sound better.’) Time to get to work around here.
