was awesome. that goes almost without saying, i thought I’d have a great time, and I did once I got past my nervousness. i’m already looking forward to next year and I’m still in the hotel. One great thing that’s already come out of this is something I think will happen with increasingly regularity: I stumbled across a review looking for books by Steve Eickson and came across a review of Allistair Reynold’s most recent book by one of of the people who’d told me I should read Erickson. He also suggested a very smooth, smokey scotch to me. Anyway, this confrence was great and I think I’ll be gearing a lot more free time [once I have time that isn't free] toward scholarship and helping out the organization. Great fun will be had. More on that later. I must remember to look around at Drupal when I get a chance.

ski trip in Utah
Wednesday, December 26th, 2007Expect, again, nothing substantive. This keyboard doesn’t have an End key. It’s annoying.
for good or ill I’ve clearly solved the Youtube embedding problem.
(via the related videos when a friend showed me video of the ascent of Mt. Olympus, Utah.) Merry X-mas everyone, hope it was good and I’ll be back in touch around New Year.

The ball mouse with no mouse pad here in the library slowed me down significantly and reduced my accuracy on that small map. I’m calling foul on the interface here. I’ll have to do this again at home, I’m confident I can get to the end. I’m no geography slouch, I’ve got a decent idea where most things are generally which is most of what you need for the game.
(small hint: important Italian Renaissance places appear to be mostly in Northern Italy, something I hadn’t fully considered.)
let me know what you end up getting in the comments, if you’re so inclined, invisible readership.
got my ticket, and a full vacation
Sunday, November 18th, 2007I’ve got my ticket home, 6pm tuesday Greyhound to New York. I’ll be home, get this and brace yourselves, 4 whole days. This is practically unheard of since that long summer I didn’t have a job and was bored to tears when I wasn’t traveling all over the place or whatever. It’ll be good to be home. My boss is the man and gave me Sunday off too, I have what I imagine to be one of the best cashier positions possible.
A Day in Ipswich by the numbers
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007This is where we walked on Veteran’s Day. 5.0 Miles, each way, Google says: “up to 20 mins in traffic.” which means “up to 3 hours, on foot, if you stop to take pictures a lot and for detours to apple orchards and nature trails.” So, including our detour to a nature trail along the way we did over 10 miles of walking. Not a bad day’s work. We earned those 4 beers a piece and I have to remember I owe Chelsea $20.
